What is Eczmol?Eczmol is the newest in a long line of products in the health environment which is based on the antimicrobial prowess of Chlorhexidine. Eczmol has as its’ active ingredient 1% chlorhexidine gluconate.
Eczmol has been formulated as a low viscosity cream in which the chlorhexidine is mixed with moisturising agents (white soft paraffin and light liquid paraffin), surfactants and stabilisers to produce a product which is equally useful as either a leave on product or as a soap substitute.
Under the standard parameters used to test such products, Eczmol exceeds the MIC for staph aureus for more than 4 hours when used as a leave on product and for more than 2 hours when used as a soap substitute.
This enduring action results from the ability of chlorhexidine to bind to keratinocytes, retaining its antimicrobial activity even in the presence of blood or exudate.
